The Order of Landscape

Lightbox, pencil on tracing papers, stickers

15 X 9.7 cm (a set of 3)

That object is always being obscured. I want to explore into the long-existed pagoda trees, walk through a path to the back of the pagoda trees and rearrange the order of landscapes.

Through the two-way tunnels, the scenery in Macau was being collected by the binoculars in The Rich Girl and Her Double. The small Octagonal Pavilion, which was hid in the woods, actually exists. The diffuse light passed through the leaves, or being reflected repeatedly in the dust and finally faded in the air.

Ms. Wong made up a story ── the chapter “Pavilion in Mirage” is about a big Octagonal Pavilion that never exists. That was all about the empty talks and rumors on the newspapers.

The library is like a camera obscura, which collects the surrounding light waves and sound waves. The S. Francisco Garden, such as the Red Sea, was divided into two followed by the birth of Rua de Santa Clara. Praia Grande, where was four hundred meters away from the old coastline, was also divided, and later turned into a lake but no longer a bay. The pagoda trees were once standing along the bay, were encircled on the refuge island; but the concrete pedestals did not offer the significance as monuments.

I only found a few photographs that “proves” the existence of the big Octagonal Pavilion. Those photographs are mostly color postcards, which were probably hand-painted on top of the black and white photographs in watercolor. The illustration style does not evidently deliver a sense of (certain) existence to the imaginary big Octagonal Pavilion. The people who really care about the big Octagonal Pavilion have tried to present it  in different forms in order to maintain its existence in the world, such as the characters of the book are also willing to visit the big Octagonal Pavilion (thanks to the author); as well as the research on the big octagonal pavilion conducted by the post-graduates from the Music Department of the University of Hong Kong, which fills the research gap of the missing corner (the eight corners). The path to the big Octagonal Pavilion is yet to be completed; it should be still hiding at a secluded corner, unwilling to be found by the cruel people. This maybe the punishment for them, but at the same time it creates a myth for me.
